The Helikite BIG BAG enables you to keep the Helikite in a secure bag, ready for inflation at any time. The Helikite can be stored on the ground for easy re-launching. Quick fill up via access point on the front of the bag. Secure to ground during inflation. Vented so the balloon does not over heat, but also stays dust free. Helikite arrives on site already stored in the Big-Bag. Then the Big-Bag is staked or weighted down to the ground using the webbing loops provided. 2 x Air Products2.61m3 “Integra” helium cylinders are stored in the Backpack.

The Helikite balloon inflation input valve is located through the hand-sized frontal hole in the Big-Bag. The helium hose attached to the Helikite balloon and filling commences. The Helikite can be observed via the draw-string closure at the back end of the Big-Bag.

Helikite is fully inflated and can be extracted from the rear of the Big-Bag ready for flight.

Claw Ground Anchors

The “Ground Grabba” an immensely strong solid steel articulated ground anchor. Designed specifically for Helikites and hand made by Allsopp Helikites Ltd. in England. It can be deployed in under 60 seconds. Its articulated design actually grabs the ground harder when the pull on it is increased. So it does not budge when under strain. The ‘Grabba’ is unique in being suitable for almost all types of ground with no design changes. This is very important as it removes the need to carry numerous different types of ground anchors to suit different soils and also greatly reduces training time for operators. It is very low profile so easily fits under a tarpaulin or Helibase and has no sharp protrusions to damage the Helikite or cause injury to operators. The ‘Grabba’ is possibly the best all round ground anchor available.

Automatic Barometric Balloon Cut-Down

This system requires no human interaction besides the initial setting of the height parameters and so should satisfy any legal requirements. Air pressure reduces with altitude. A sensor on the aerostat detects the difference between the atmospheric barometric pressure of its launch height and its present barometric pressure. If it detects that the Helikite is at too great an altitude, it initiates a hot wire cutting device that creates a large hole in the balloon material which quickly release the helium gas and causes the Helikite to descend.

Both Radio Controlled and Automatic Barometric systems are extremely simple to use plug-and-play designs for very fast deployment, and yet they are very sophisticated and computer controlled with an ability to test the circuits and wires for faults before deployment. They also check the battery power is sufficient. They use Lithion Ion batteries which operate at very low temperatures and have years of shelf-life. The electronics of both the ground station and the airborne components are water-resistant. The total weight of the airborne components is 1.3Kg.

Radio-Controlled Balloon Cut-Down

An encrypted radio signal is sent from a ground station transmitter to a radio receiver on the Helikite. This initiates a hot wire to cut a large hole in the balloon material to cause the gas to escape and the Helikite to descend.

The signal can be sent within 10 Km of the Helikite. This can be a very rapid method of downing a Helikite. So it is quite possible that the operator would be able to retrieve the Helikite quickly and with minimal damage.

GPS Controlled Balloon Cut-Down

Designed to deflate the balloon in the event of a tether break in order to help recover the payload and
protect other airspace users. The HCS-03M is a safety device for tethered plastic skinned helium balloons, blimps or Helikites. It is designed to deflate the balloon in the event of a tether break in order to help recover the payload and protect other airspace users.

It uses the GPS satellite system to monitor the position of the balloon. If the balloon moves more than a certain distance away from its launch point, the HCS-03M will pass a current through a wire placed in contact with the balloon material. The wire heats up and melts a hole in the balloon, allowing the helium to escape and the balloon to descend. Simple operation. Light weight. Can protect blimps, Helikites and other lifting balloons where there is insufficient free lift to trigger a conventional barometric or pressure-operated deflation device. Can be used instead of a second-line / rip-panel system. it initiates a hot wire cutting device that creates a large hole in the balloon material which quickly release the helium gas and
causes the Helikite to descend.
